Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have much experience with filmmaking, can I still participate?

Yes! We will have workshops for our participants to help with ideation and skill-building. There will also be mentors available to give advice and keynote speakers to inspire creativity.

What if I don't have a team?

Don't worry. We will have a mixer - time before the kickoff to help you find a group. If you're still assembling your team you can finalize it at the kickoff as well.

What equipment will we be provided?

Professional audio mastering software, LANDR, will be free for all participants of Spotlight during the competition. Free software trials can be used on most Macs, and we will be trying to book out some labs with such computers, such as the MacLab in the Shapiro Undergraduate Library, ISS Media Lounge, and Editing Rooms, at the Modern Languages Building and Duderstat Center. Remember, if you have a great idea and passion, you don’t need professional equipment to bring it to life. If you want to use your own recording or filming equipment, that is also allowed.

Do actors count against the number of people team limit?

No. The only people that count are your film or recording crew.
